Way before our kiddies came along, I use to enjoy Sunday night dinners at the local RSL club with my dad - Sundays were also their big raffle night, lots of prizes! Plus they would hold an 'End of Month' draw for all previous raffle draw entrants. One particular End of Month Sunday I decided to put the special ticket fold theory to the test. I had unfortunately not been able to go to any previous raffles that month so I only had one ticket in the barrel - it was a long shot. Funnily enough, my one ticket was drawn out and I had won a TV! The ticket fold had worked like a charm.
Unfortunately, very recently my ticket fold trick failed me. About a month ago I joined two friends (and fellow compers) at a recent shopping centre promotion. They were giving away 5 iPads and all you had to do was fill in entry forms on the day, as many as you wanted, then wait for the prize draw later in the afternoon. I started folding up my first ticket and one of my friends asked, 'What on Earth are you doing?'. I explained my theory and then they were both doing the fold too. We had so many tickets in the barrel, all strategically folded, I was sure at least one of our names would be drawn. But it wasn't meant to be.
Oh well, I guess two out of three ain't bad.
